Intra-University Applicants

Current and former University students (anyone formerly admitted to the University of Minnesota) who want to apply for admissions to the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences must submit a completed Application for Change of College or Status to the Office of the Registrar by the application deadline.  These may be obtained in the College's Office of Academic Programs and Student Affairs in 190 Coffey Hall.

If you were previously enrolled in a College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences undergraduate degree program but have not registered for two consecutive semesters, your student status is considered inactive.  If you would like to resume your studies and the College degree program, you must contact the Office of Academic Programs and Student Affairs at (612) 624-7254.

Graduate Admission

Prospective graduate students should examine the "Faculty/Staff" and "Departmental Research" Web pages to become familiar with the ongoing activities of the Department and select an area of study for their thesis.

  • Requirements for admission to the M.S. and Ph.D. Major degree in Soil
  • Applicants seeking admission to the Soil Program must:

    1. Complete and MAIL to the Director of Graduate Studies the Departmental Summary Form.
    2. Take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
    3. Supply three letters of recommendation.
    4. Applicants for whom English is a second language should have completed the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
    5. Complete the Graduate School Application Form electronically under Apply Online!. Letters of recommendation can be added in the supporting documents section.

Notice that the graduate school will not forward your "official" documents to us until they have received all relevant transcripts and registration fees. You could also send copies of your transcripts directly to us as this may alert us to fellowship opportunities and/or provide us with an early idea of a likely match with particular professors.

Since Graduate School Fellowship applications must be received by the department by December 1, and because we receive many more requests for graduate assistantships then we can possibly support, you will have the greatest chance of receiving a fellowship or assistantship if you apply by December 1. Applications may, however, be submitted at any time in the year and will be reviewed December 1 and May 15.
