Climatology | Soil Science | Water Science

Climatology Minor (20 semester hours)

The climatology minor provides students with the opportunity to broaden their expertise in the area of weather and climate studies. Students who will be working for an industry or agency that depends on understanding weather and climate change will find this minor useful.

Soil Science Minor (20 Semester hours)

It is assumed that all students electing the minor in soils will have completed Soil 2125 in their major requirements.

Required Courses:

ES 3221 Soil Conservation and Land-Use Management 3 cr.
SOIL 3416 Plant Nutrients in the Environment 3 cr.
ES 3612W Soil and Environmental Biology 3 cr
SOIL 5232 Vadose Zone Hydrology & Lab (3)
SOIL 4511 Field study of soils 2 cr.
SOIL 5515 Soil Genesis and Landscape Relations 3 cr.

Choose 3 credits from:

ES 4601 Soils and Pollution 3 cr.
SOIL 5555/ES 5555 Wetland Soils 3 cr.
ES 5211 Environmental Biophysics & Ecology 3 cr.
SOIL 5311 Soil Chemistry and Mineralogy 3 cr.
SOIL 5711 Forest Soils (2)

Water Science Minor (20 semester hours)

Students who are interested in qualifying as a hydrologist should determine the exact requirements for the State of Minnesota civil service position by checking the Hydrologist I (Hydrogeology) and Hydrologist I (Water Resources) position descriptions. Students in Environmental Science in the Water Resources Emphasis are not eligible for a Water Science Minor.
